Support for Parents and Perinatal Mental Health
I completely get that parenting can feel incredibly messy, frustrating and overwhelming at times. I work with parents who want to feel more joy in their parenting role and to feel more present and connected with their children.
With adequate support, knowledge and skills, parenthood can set the scene for a rewarding personal growth journey.
I offer support to new parents navigating the fundamental identity shift and emotional transformation that happens during matrescence. I also help parents who want to improve their emotional regulation skills to better cope with the day-to-day and who want practical tips and strategies to problem solve particular parenting challenges.
I have completed perinatal specific training with the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE), have experience working in a perinatal-specific mental health service and have coached many parents in public child/adolescent mental health services. I am also a trained Circle of Security group facilitator.
Your child is always welcome in the session with me. Bring the bottle and the nappies and the snacks - we’ll make it work!
Work, Study, Stress and Burnout
I support people who are struggling with job dissatisfaction, challenging workplace dynamics and uncertainty regarding their career or job security.
I offer support for people experiencing workplace bullying and those who spend their days in a toxic workplace environment. I also support people navigating a complete career change or career crisis, and high achievers experiencing stress and burnout (either at home or in the workplace).
Support might take place in the form of assertiveness skills training, boundary setting, identification of values, confidence building or addressing perfectionism.
Interpersonal Relationships and Self Worth
We are made to be in community. Social support is key when it comes to emotional wellbeing and building resilience to stress.
I help individuals who lack social support and are struggling with difficult interpersonal relationships or low self esteem.
Help might take place in the form of reducing anxiety in social situations, assertiveness skills training, boundary setting, identifying personal values, processing past trauma or confidence building.
Culture, Identity and Faith/Spirituality-based Issues
I offer support to people who are navigating the tension between their own individual values and the external expectations of others.
You may feel like following your own hopes and dreams would go against your cultural or religious beliefs or that it could mean disappointing your family.
I can help you to navigate what might feel like a very confusing and complex landscape. I support people experiencing family of origin issues, migratory grief and uncertainty about their sense of identity.
What to Expect
My Therapeutic Style
My therapeutic style is authentic, compassionate and collaborative. There is generally a focus on finding solutions and insights. I’m here to help you draw upon your own strengths, values, lived experience and wisdom to bring awareness to what you already know are the right decisions for yourself. My hope is that you will leave feeling seen and heard, and never that you’ve been lectured, judged or rescued.
I know that no two women arrive with the same story. I draw on evidence-based modalities and tailor each session to your unique needs and goals. My aim with each session is that you will gain a new skill or strategy to try or a new question or insight to reflect on.
Our Sessions
Our sessions will be a space for deep and meaningful work but they won’t always have to feel heavy. There will be opportunities to share a laugh and a cup of tea. Humour can be part of the process and help to bring perspective or moments of relief.
Therapy with me is a confidential, safe space where you can be completely yourself and solely focus on you for a while. I’ll listen carefully to you without judgment, ask thoughtful questions and gently challenge the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together we’ll make sense of what is happening, discover practical ways forward and help you build a life that feels more aligned with who you are.
